Finance/Accounting Internship

Scope of Work: Accounting/Finance Intern position will get exposure to all aspects of the accounting for a manufacturing. You will have interactions with Purchase orders, sales orders, AP invoices, AR invoices, inventory procedures, GL / subledger reconciliation, Balance sheet reconciliation. The goal of the internship is to gain a fundamental understanding of all business functions and their relation to accounting. This will set you up for success in any accounting role moving forward. 

  • Prepare tangible personal business property returns and excise tax returns as required 
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of all business functions and their relationship to accounting processes, setting a strong foundation for future roles in accounting. 
  • Gain exposure to various aspects of accounting for manufacturing, including purchase orders, sales orders, accounts payable (AP) invoices, accounts receivable (AR) invoices, inventory procedures, and more 
  • File sales and use tax returns for multiple states per state schedules 
  • Manage and resolve any state and local tax issues, or audits 
  • Assist with setting up sales tax rates 
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly work in progress, (WIP), inventory, and invoicing costs 
  • Perform job costing and margin analysis 
  • Assist with treasury functions to include daily cash activity and preparation of cash status reports 
  • Utilize Syteline ERP system to facilitate processes and maintain records 
  • Work within department to improve processes related to job 
  •  Assist with special projects as needed 

 

Experience/Abilities: 

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. 
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team. 
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a desire to gain hands-on experience in accounting.
