Position Title:                          Design Engineer – ASME Pressure Vessels

Office Location:                      Loganville, Georgia

Exemption Classification:    Non-Exempt

Reports To:                            Engineering Manager

Date:                                       February 15, 2022

 

Job Summary: The “Design Engineer – ASME Pressure Vessels” at Tomco will be part of a small engineering team focused on producing manufacturing drawing packages. This includes the creation of calculations, drawings, bills of materials, and be a technical resource supporting pressure vessel construction. There is also the opportunity to be a part of ongoing product and process developments. This position provides significant advisory engineering support by method of calculations and code adherence.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculations, analysis and design in accordance with key pressure vessel, structural & piping regulatory codes.
    • ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section II, IX, V, VIII, XII
      • Unfired Pressure Vessels
    • IBC, ASCE, DOT (MC-331)
      • Structural, Wind, Seismic
    • ASME 11, B16.5, B31.1, B31.12, B31.3
      • Chemical & Process Piping
    • Apply a detailed knowledge of ASME VIII Division 1 Pressure Vessel Code to ensure resulting designs are safe and fully comply with all applicable design and jurisdictional requirements.
    • Review, oversee & perform engineering calculations for mechanical stresses, member deflections, pressure, weldments, lifting lugs, vessel, and pipe wall thicknesses.
    • Provide technical support for operations and sales as needed.
    • Collaborates with engineers, design professionals, or others, to confirm the of the project specifications
    • Create drawings with engineered Bills of Materials and weld symbols
    • Assist with allocation of responsibilities for project support between a Project Manager, QC and/or Safety Officer.
    • Routinely evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports with relevant recommendations
    • Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues immediately
    • Attend company and industry events including meetings, trainings, workshops, when scheduled.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Preferred 5 years experience in ASME pressure vessel design
    • Understanding of pressure vessel design codes, design calculations, mechanics of materials, machine design, structural design
  • Experience using 2D & 3D CAD (DraftSight/Solidworks preferred)
  • Experience with Ansys, Compress, Mathcad or similar design software
  • Experience using ERP software
  • Understanding of procedures, material, and project management principles
  • Familiarity with quality and OSHA safety standards
  • Working knowledge of Adobe & MS Office, especially Excel and Word
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication and time-management skills
  • A team player with leadership abilities
